Along the Shore, Gilsland Farm • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
I sat in one of the little shaded huts along the
shore at Gilsland Farm to do this painting. There
was a breeze blowing & I was completely in the
shade, escaping the hot sun. I love this view of
the marshy shore & the full green trees
overhead & beyond. There was so much room for
me to play around with color & I love that!

Through the Trees, Gisland Farm • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
I went over to Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm this
morning to sit in the shade & paint. It’s a
scorcher here today & it was so nice to be near
the water & to sit under the tall trees in this
wooded area. This is a rather abstract painting of
my view in the woods looking across to a sunlit
field & wooded hillside. I had fun with the
colors & of course, just being outdoors. Hope
you are staying cool!

This morning I went out to water my veggie garden
& couldn’t help but notice how sweet my zinnias
were looking. I cut a few, put them in a little
vase & up to the studio I went. This little
painting is just bursting with color. I hope it
makes you smiles.

Aran, Dog Portrait • 5x5 • oil on canvas • SOLD
I hope you had a good weekend. I certainly did!
We had a visit from a college
friend which is always lots of fun. And it
just so happens that she’s a raw foodie too so
I spent my weekend getting crative in the
kitchen instead of the studio.
Today’s painting is of Aran the
dog. He has the most expressive little eyes. I
just want to pick him up & squeeze him!
He’s so cute! WOOF! WOOF!

Clare, Cat Portrait • 8x10 • oil on canvas • SOLD
This kitty, Clare, loves to perch on the couch
& watch everything around her. Kitties are so
cute ... they all have a favorite lookout spot.
Where does you kitty like to sit? We have one who
loves to sleep across the dining room table ...
while that’s not his most endearing quality, he is
a cutie pie!

Pint of Cherry Tomatoes • 5x5 • oil on canvas • SOLD
Yesterday I was down in Monument Square enjoying
the sunshine & the vibrant Farmers’ Market. I
just can’t resist all of the beautiful produce at
the Farmers’ Market ... it nourishes my creative
spirit as well as my body. What more could I ask
for? These tomatoes melt in your mouth ... they are
sooooooooooo good. Want one?

July Moonrise • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
Awhile back we went for a beautiful evening bike
ride to watch the sunset over the Back Cove ... it
was gorgeous. What we didn’t know was that the full
moon was coming up over Casco Bay at the same time!
We rode our bike back around on the Eastern Prom
& witnessed this moonrise. I’ve been so busy
lately, I haven’t had time to paint it ... until
now!

Farmers' Market LOVE • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
We went to the Farmers’ Market on Saturday morning
& it was simply bursting with color & juicy
fruits & veggies. I have never seen the
abundance of produce at the market like we saw on
Saturday--it was AMAZING! I could have spent all
morning there admiring & sampling the goodies
... heavenly! Here’s a taste of the fresh carrots
& beets that we saw ... so beautiful!

Vinalhaven Harbor • 24x36 • oil on canvas • SOLD
We went to Vinalhaven for the first time a few
weeks ago & I just loved poking around the
harbor shoreline. Everywhere I looked I saw a
painting. I couldn’t resist this scene of the
fishing boats docked & the in the harbor &
the seagull perched on the edge of a dock ... a
little piece of heaven!

The Head Light • 24x26 • oil on canvas • $775
I’v had the opportunity to do a couple of larger
paintings recently which has bee really fun. Here’s
a painting I did of the Portland Headlight with a
glowing morning sky. I love the Head Light ... I am
just drawn to its shape & the rocky shore that
it protects boaters from.

I walked down to the Beach on my last morning in
North Hero & the water & sky were
exquisite. Everything is was so still & the
reflections of the clouds above really caught my
eye. This is a somewhat abstract painting & I
just love the feel of this peaceful Summer morning
with the islands off in the distance.

Lake Champlain Sunset • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
I was in North Hero, VT for a week hanging out with
my dad & the pups. I had a great time sitting
on the beach, swimming in the lake, riding my bike,
reading & just hanging out. I feel refreshed
from my VT getaway! One evening my dad & I
walked out to the point & we witnessed a
gorgeous sunset over Holiday Point.
Happiness! I love catching these
moments--what a peaceful & inspiring way
to end a Summer day!

View from Alburg Golf Links • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
Yesterday I went over to the Alburg Golf Links to
paint while my dad played a round of golf. I sat up
on their gorgeous deck overlooking the 1st green
& Lake Champlain ... what a great view &
peaceful place to sit. The weather was a little
iffy, but held off until we left. I added in the
Adirondacks from memory as it was too humid &
threatening to really see that far off in the
distance.

I’m up in North Hero, VT enjoying Lake Champlain
& the mountain views. My first day here was
GORGEOUS ... I got to enjoy some time on the beach
& in the lake which felt really good. It’s
raining pretty hard right now, but boy did they
need the rain, and it feels good to just hang out
& do nothing! Cheers to Summer vacations!

Ferry Ride to Vinalhaven • 5x5 • oil on canvas • $75
I was so inspired on our trip to Vinalhaven--from
leaving the dock, to riding by 2 lighthouses, to
looking back at Camden Hills, and seeing the
countless islands littering the coast--it was a
stunning hour and 20 minute ride. We got out close
to Vinalhaven & I couldn’t believe how many
other little islands there were around. Everywhere
I looked I saw views that simply captured the
essence of the Maine Coast. Here is one of them.

BUSY WEEK
Hi there! I just thought I’d fill you in on
what has been keeping me out of the studio over the
past week. With Summer in FULL swing, life has been
busy! We enjoyed a getaway to the Camden/Rockland
area last week which included 3 nights of camping
at Camden Hills State Park, a day trip with bikes
to Vinalhaven (an island 12 miles off the coast), a
visit with friends & a raw food cooking class
with Matthew Kenney at Lincolnville’s Cellardoor
Winery. What a GREAT time we had all around!

When I got back, I had the pleasure of being a
judge at the Munjfest Dog Show! ALL of the pups
were stunning & so talented ... it was so hard
to pick winners for the different categories. WOOF!
WOOF!

My dad & his dog, Boxy also came to visit from
Vermont for a couple of days! We had some great
family time & meals together which is always
lots of fun.
And then my raw food business
Girl Gone Raw
has kept me VERY busy too: I have had a
couple of one-on-one classes, a few grocery
store orientations & then 2 Alissa Cohen
Level I classes. YEAH! I really enjoy sharing
raw food with folks--it makes me so happy to see
people light up when they see how simple &
delicious the food is!
So, that’s my week in a nutshell! I hope to get
some regular time in the studio again over the next
week--so stay tuned for some new paintings.

Josh at the Winter Farmers' Market • 10x10 • $200
Summer is in full swing & I have been a busy
girl doing fun Summer things & enjoying friends
and family. We had a friend visit for the weekend
which was such a wonderful treat & then we
enjoyed family yesterday for Father’s Day! Happy
Belated Father’s Day to all of the dad’s out there!
I was in the studio for a bit on Saturday &
forgot to post my painting & then yesterday I
left my camera in Auburn so I still haven’t posted
it. Stay tuned. For now I am sharing this painting
of Josh who had a table set up at the Winter
Farmers’ Market here in Portland. This painting is
hanging in Belfast at the Maine Farmland Trust
Gallery until July 13th.

How I travel light with
my paints
Recently I was asked
how I am able to hop on my bike with my paints, so
I thought I’d share my set up with you. It’s simple
& works for me whether I am on bike or hike ...
and cost me next to nothing!
Meet my paint box & my canvas box. My paint box
is just an old stationery box with a drawer where I
can keep 1 little 5x5 canvas & some business
cards. My palette is a piece of cardboard with wax
paper wrapped around it. I always fill my palette
with fresh paint before heading out on an
excursion. My canvas box is a box of 5x5 canvases
& I added spacers to it so I can carry wet
paintings in it.
I keep my paints in a tackle box, so if I travel
for a week or so I can bring it to keep at my home
base! I tuck a few of my favorite brushes in a
water bottle & of course my paint thinner in a
jar. If I’m going away for a weekend or more, I’ll
bring several jars & my paint thinner.
All of my goodies fit in my lil’ LL BEan tote bag:
my paint box with full palette, my canvas box with
blank canvases, my jar of paint thinner, my bottle
of brushes & a rag or two.
And my bag fits right in the basket on my bike, so
I can go anywhere! And if I’m hiking, I take a back
pack with all of these items instead of my tote.
Piece of cake & lots of fun!
