Nightime Sparkle & Island Night

Nighttime Sparkle • 5×5 • oil on canvas • SOLD
Island Night • 5×5 • oil on canvas • SOLD

Just sitting here playing with color in these two nighttime paintings of the Maine Coast. These paintings spell out tranquility to me … the color palette is a favorite of mine and the quiet of nighttime on the water is so calming. These paintings look so much better in person, but you get the idea. :-). I hope you are staying cozy and dry on this dreary day. I am thinking about you & sending much love your way. xox

Island Harbor View

Island Harbor View • 24×24 • oil on canvas • SOLD

Here’s another painting from my Vinalhaven series. I was pedaling around the island and stumbled across this scenic harbor with lobster boats, islands, and coastal homes. It never gets old! :-). I had fun playing with colors and shapes in this painting.

Colorful Day at the Basin

Colorful Day at the Basin • 24×24 • oil on canvas • $625

I have felt a little blocked as an artist for awhile now … not super motivated, not truly inspired to go beyond where my day to day work load takes me. Of course I have kept on painting and trying to challenge myself–discipline is half the battle–but there seems to be more to it. I have written off this blocked feeling to the fact that I do so much commission work (which I absolutely LOVE) and how it’s hard to keep up with that and carve out time to paint what calls to my soul.

Well, I have decided to spend some time getting unstuck by playing more & working larger. This painting was a fun piece for me to experiment with. I drew out the composition in paint and then let myself play with colors and shapes. It’s a really happy piece & definitely sparks joy! I have also begun “The Artist’s Way” which is book that helps you dive in to your creative being through a 12 week program. Let’s see where this leads … How do you get unstuck?

Winter Sunset

Winter Sunset • 6×6 • oil on canvas • $95

One of my favorite things about winter is the dramatic skies we get to witness.  I just love the warm light on frigid days.  Hope, calm and absolute beauty is what they represent to me on some of our shorts days of the year.  I try to get outside and walk to take in the fresh, sea air and the magic that Mother Nature offers up–even f it requires I wear snow pants and 2 coats.  Always a treat!

Stillness in the Basin

Stillness in the Basin • 6×6 • oil on canvas • SOLD

The wind and rain are pounding against my studio windows and I have escaped to an autumn walk through the forest in the quiet mist which leads to this view on Vinalhaven.  So still.  So pretty.  Where do you go when the wind and rain pound against your windows?

Head Light Morning

Head Light Morning • 6×6 • oil on canvas • $95

We took a morning ride over to admire the Portland Head Light over the weekend (in those single digit temps) and it was as beautiful as ever.  I love the big wreath and bow on it.  The other cool thing we noticed was the gorgeous new fence off to the right of the lighthouse along the rocky ledges–so much prettier than the chain link–can’t wait to see it with the roses in bloom.

Maine Beauty

Maine Beauty • 5×5 • oil on canvas • $75

We’ve had some cold, cold weather recently (normal for January in Maine) but it’s still fun to let your mind wander and take you away to warmer days.  With a hot mug of tea in hand, I was day dreaming about a mild and scenic walk around Lane’s Island Preserve, so here you have it!

The Color of Winter

Happy New Year to you!  I hope your 2019 is foo to a good start.  Mine certainly is.  After a busy December in the studio, I am just now getting back in my groove and I  wanted to take a minute to say thank you for your support of my artwork in 2018.  Thank you!  It is such an honor for me to share my work with you & to paint special pieces for you. xoxo

Here’s a painting of the glowing late afternoon sun coming through the trees as we headed around the last bend on Mackworth Island.  It was a frigid and beautiful walk along the shore and on the trail.  Getting out in winter can feel hard, but it never disappoints … as long as you are dressed for it!

Goodbye, Autumn

Goodbye, Autumn • 6×6 • oil on canvas • $95

As we brace for our first snow of the season, I bid farewell to beautiful Autumn.  xoxo I will miss the colors, the crisp air and the milder temps, but look forward to the beauty that comes with the change in seasons.  I just love this little scene from a side road up in Brunswick, don’t you?  I’ll have to check it out when it’s covered in snow!
